Steve Webb

NAME - Steve Webb

BIRTHPLACE - Almer, Near Blandford Forum, Dorset

PREVIOUS CLUBS - oh dear !!
Sturminster Marshall (village side), Nottingham Forest (Trial period but scored at the Trent End before they sussed me out!!),
Bournemouth (Only made it to the Reserves before they sussed me out … seems to be a theme here !!), Poole Town (Southern League), Swanage (Western League) Blandford Utd FC and Parley Sports (Dorset Premiere) and now …...Odiaxere Walking Football Team.

CHILDHOOD CRUSH -
Sophia Loren

FAVOURITE PROFESSIONAL PLAYER OF ALL TIME -
Denis Law, George Best, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo….. Dave Stocks at Bournemouth (70’s) - he keeps reminding me how I cleaned his boots and is my best mate in UK plus he launched me a few times in training as well!!

FAVOURITE ODIAXERE CLUB PLAYER AND WHY -
How not to offend haha!!
Ian, Bill and John S because without them there would be no walking football and I would not be involved in football again some 24 years after retiring.

MOST DIFFICULT ODIAXERE CLUB OPPONENT -
Nigel - stuck in my memory is the time when he "launched" John S and myself at the same time. (Obviously brought up on John Wile tackling)…..should add he did help me afterwards though…a true Gent!!…..and big Rog in the warm up !!

MOST MEMORABLE MATCH -
Difficult one….
On TV - the last 3 games of the 1998/99 season when United did the Treble.
Live - Bournemouth v Liverpool FA Cup 3rd round 1967. First ever game that I went to and Man Utd v Derby 1998/99 - first time I went to Old Trafford

BIGGEST THRILL -
Scoring the winning goal with less than 10 minutes to go in the last match of the season for Blandford to win the Dorset Premiere League…..and first day at Odiaxiere and every Wednesday and Friday since!!
Oh - one last one…. seeing three Trophies at Ian’s house !!!!

JOHN LENNON OR PAUL MCARTNEY -
Paul McCartney

OASIS OR BLUR -
Neither

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT -
Leaving the “graphics” out - Went on a cricket tour for Dorset 50+ to Dubai in 2016 where we were going to be playing our matches on the Test Grounds. Didn’t play at all as fell ill on the first night with a dysentery infection (lost 1.5 stones in three days) and spent all week either in the hotel room (mainly in the bathroom..) or in hospital on a drip. Managed to get home but was off work for 7 weeks. Missed playing on the Test grounds and meeting the New Zealand and Pakistan teams who were playing there as well…. you really wanted to know that didn’t you!
…. and not being able to get back to Odiaxiere due to pandemic !!!

BEST COUNTRY VISITED -
Portugal of course but enjoy Perth in Western Australia where my wife’s brother lives.

FAVOURITE FOOD -
Roast Chicken or Lasagna

FAVOURITE PORTUGUESE FOOD -
Sole or Octopus salad

FAVOURITE DRINK -
Cup of Tea

MISCELLANEOUS LIKES -
Playing football …again, cricket, golf and watching my daughters play golf (they are too good for me) …...and retirement !!

MISCELLANEOUS DISLIKES-
Work but retired last Christmas!! People that don’t say thank you especially when I hold the door for them!

FAVOURITE TV SHOW -
Movies and any football channel showing a game particularly Man Utd

FAVOURITE FILM -
Charade and You’ve Got Mail and TV series - Suits

FAVOURITE SINGER -
Beach Boys, 10cc, Police/Sting and ELO

FAVOURITE ACTOR -
Cary Grant, Tom Hanks, Kevin Costner, Tom Sellick and Sandra Bullock

BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON
CAREER -
John Bond and Trevor Hartley at Bournemouth and my Osteopath for keeping me playing until I was 41…..!!

BIGGEST DRAG IN SOCCER-
Travelling to away games - took me (and another player) 3 days to get home from playing a Western League match against Torquay Reserves because of the snow. Took the rest of the team 5 days as they came home a different route haha …..a story for another day !!

WHAT ONE ITEM WOULD YOU TAKE WITH YOU TO A DESERT ISLAND -
My iMac and iPod - assuming of course that the Island has electricity to charge it?

WHICH PERSON IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO MEET
Already have - my wife - but for the question in it’s context - Alex Ferguson and Denis Law
Oh and John Munro as we haven’t met yet and since playing at Odiaxere have found out we used to live/work near each other and think we played 5 a side against each other !!
