Cork City 1-Bayern Munich 1 in the 91/92 Uefa Cup. A bunch of part timers from Cork went into the lead against the mighty Bayern with a goal scored by all Ireland GAA star Dave Barry, a plumber who fitted a boiler the morning of the match. Stefan Effenberg had promised a six-goal victory for Bayern the 23-year-old midfielder took a verbal swipe at Dave Barry, declaring that the opposition’s talisman looked old enough to be his father. Dave’s retort to the German press afterwards was ‘If he thinks I was like his father, he played like my mother tonight.’
